MISSION
The Asian Arts & Culture
Center at Towson University promotes
the art and cultures of Asia through
outstanding programming designed to
benefit students, faculty, artists, the local community, and the state of
Maryland.
EMPHASIS ON EDUCATION
To make art an integral part of every student's education, the Asian Arts & Culture Center's activities include art
exhibitions, concerts, lectures, films, workshops and demonstrations that are available to students and the
public throughout the year.
The Asian Arts Gallery exhibits are used by many faculty members as part of their teaching programs. To students of Asian art history, philosophy, history and language, a visit to the gallery provides an opportunity to gain direct contact with art objects and a deeper understanding of the cultures they are studying. For those taking studio art courses, the gallery is a place to explore different techniques and develop esthetic sensibilities.
Local schools, libraries and service organizations may borrow selected items
from the collections for their educational
programs.
This
programming is made possible in part through grants from the
Baltimore County
Commission on
Arts & Sciences and the
Maryland State Arts Council, an agency of
the Department of Business and Economic Development providing financial and
technical assistance to nurture artistic excellence and expand public
participation in the Arts. Funding for the Maryland State Arts Council is also
provided by the
National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, which
believes that a great nation deserves great art.
