Kudos to COFAC Faculty
Tom Casciero, from the Theatre Department, was invited to teach at the National University of Costa Rica in July. He taught Laban Movement for Actors, Linklater and Lessac voice work, and Impulse Improvisation as a source of choreography for advance students in the dance department.
Jim McFalls, from the Music department, will be featured as a co-headliner at the Cape May Jazz Festival on November 8, playing with--officially--The Denis DiBlasio Quintet featuring Jim McFalls.
Carl B. Schmidt, from the Music department, will present a paper, "The Unknown Randall Thompson: Honkeytonk Tunesmith, Broadway Ivory-Tickler," on November 8 at the national meeting of the American Musicological Society in Nashville, Tenn.
Susan Isaacs, Art + Design, Art History, Art Education, curated an exhibition and authored an exhibition publication for events at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts (DCCA), Maryland Art Place (MAP) and Loyola University of Baltimore: "Fantastical Imaginings." The exhibition will travel to DCCA in November, December and January. It will be at MAP and Loyola in February and March.
Towson University College of Fine Arts Faculty Collaborates for a Kennedy Center Premier Performance
Vincent E. Thomas (Dance Department) and Cecylia Barczyk (Music Department) collaborated in 2007 on a cello composition and dance. The music, ìPrelude and Elergyî was written by the late Gordon Cyr, a former Towson University Music faculty and composer. The collaboration is titled ìRender and Proceedî and looks at the convolution of media on the human spirit and condition. This duet, performed by the two award-winning Towson University COFAC faculty, is part of a larger work titled Witness, which will premier at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage on September 11th and 12th at 6pm. The performances are free and open to the public. The Kennedy Center webcasts live the Millennium Stage performances. If you cannot attend live, please tune in at www.kennedy-center.org.
Vincent E. Thomas was awarded a 2008 Kennedy Center Local Dance Commissioning Project for the creation of Witness.
Three EMF Students win EMMYs
"Velocipede," a film produced by Towson University EMF students Justin Kanner, Jeffrey O¹Dell and Jason Stefaniak, received the Outstanding Achievement for a Student Production Award by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences National Capital/Chesapeake Bay Chapter. Each student will receive an Emmy Production Certificate and the students and their professor, Gordon Glover, will be recognized at the academy's Emmy Award ceremony at the Ritz Carlton in Washington, D.C. on June 14.
Marching band to perform at New York City Parade
The Towson University TIGER Marching Band has been accepted to perform in the 2009 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City! This experience will provide a lifelong Towson memory for band students. This performance will be televised for 44 million viewers and will bring great national exposure to Towson University and the Marching Band.
