Create Balance

We can hear it now: “Ugh! One more thing you’re telling me I have to do? It’s not enough just to try to be a good student? I also have to be good at all these other things?”

Wellness is about balance. It’s not about loading your already full plate with still more things to do. It’s about finding a good balance between the different aspects of yourself and your life. Because when you create the right balance, each part nourishes the others.

The seven parts of the Educating the Whole You wellness model are:

  • Intellectual wellness
  • Physical wellness
  • Relational wellness
  • Emotional wellness
  • Vocational wellness
  • Financial wellness
  • Spiritual wellness

More and more social science research is suggesting that these different areas are interrelated. Exercise can help you think more clearly. An active spiritual life can increase longevity. Doing a job you enjoy can make you happier. And so on.

That’s why giving some attention to each of these areas is important. In other words, balance is key. It leads to a happier, healthier you.

What gets in the way of balance?

Perfectionism. Poor time management. Making decisions based on what you think others want from you, rather than what you actually need.

What helps create balance? First and foremost, a commitment to balance and a commitment to wellness. Then, using the resources found on this web site, you can explore some specific techniques and tools to work on finding the right balance for you.
