Student Organizations and Opportunities

Arts Advocacy

This two-day event on Capitol Hill allows dance majors to speak with the legislature regarding support for arts funding. Seniors and other interested dance majors make this event a priority in early spring each B.F.A. dance majors year.

American College Dance Festival Association (ACDFA)

The ACDFA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting dance in higher education. In addition to sponsoring college and university regional conferences, the ACDFA hosts a national dance festival at which students and faculty learn and perform with their peers.

Internship Statement

The Dance Department of Towson University encourages students to experience internships.  We believe internships are important to the development of a post graduate resume, building bridges to the professional world through direct experiences and the formation of a professional network.  Internships may be in a variety of Dance concentrations but should reflect the student's ultimate professional goals after graduation.  These internships will not be tied to the curriculum but will be done in addition to any work completed toward graduation unless exceptions to this rule are made.

These exceptions will be made for credits registered through independent study with an instructor of Towson University.  Additional work may be required beyond the internship responsibilities such as a final paper or project.

All internships must be accompanied by an individual contract completed collaboratively by the host institution and the Department of Dance.

The Choreographer's Showcase

This fall series features selected faculty, student and alumni works in three separate concerts presented in the Dance Studio Theatre, room 1003, in the Center for the Arts.

Dance Major’s Performance Project (DMPP)

This departmental student group supports budding artists and leaders among the Towson University dance majors. All choreographers must have successfully completed Dance Composition II and dance majors establish guidelines, organize rehearsals and provide technical support.

Sigma Rho Delta

Sigma Rho Delta is created and maintained by BFA dance majors who focus on services and education in dance.  We engage in activities for recruitment and retention of quality dance majors,

raise awareness for social issues, design and sell departmental dance wear, nurture the creative choreographic spirit of young artists, sponsor an end of the year dance concert with the Dance Majors Performance Project (DMPP).

Towson University Dance Company (academic credit)

The Towson University Dance Company offers a performing experience to qualified dance students, presenting lecture-demonstrations, special matinees, dance performances and residences in various venues throughout the state and region. All dance majors must audition at least twice for this 3 unit academic course before graduation.
