COOK LIBRARY

The Albert S. Cook Library, centrally located on campus, provides a fully-equipped facility for study, research, collaborative work, multimedia projects, and for access to information and computer resources and services.

On the main floor of the library, the Learning Commons is an information hub with 170 computer workstations, group study areas with enhanced technology, an electronic classroom, and a leisure reading collection. Reference librarians are available for research assistance in person, by phone, via e-mail or chat, and librarians teach students information competency skills through scheduled classes and consultations. More than 100 additional computer workstations are available on other floors of the library, and a computer lab is housed on the first floor. Wireless access to the Internet, photocopy machines, networked printers, and quiet study areas are located throughout the library. Also available is a media listening/viewing lab with nearly 18,000 CDs, films, videos, and DVDs.  Starbucks™ is located conveniently in the library lobby.

In addition to more than 570,000 books, 840,000 microforms, and 5,600 journal subscriptions, TU students have access to 150 electronic databases, more than 56,000 electronic journals, and 173,000 electronic books. Cook Library’s online catalog and electronic resources are accessible to TU students anytime, anywhere, through the library’s Web site.

The University Archives and Special Collections department contains materials pertaining to the history of the university from 1866 to the present. Cook Library is also a depository for Maryland state documents.

Towson students may request books from the 16 libraries in the University System of Maryland and affiliated institutions for quick delivery to Cook Library’s circulation desk. Students also have access to many other college and university libraries in the Baltimore area. Materials needed for academic research may be obtained via interlibrary loan from additional libraries as well.
