Music Editorial Policy

WTMD strives to play the most insightful and interesting music on the radio.  We have a deep and unbinding commitment to local artists who produce music the works within our overall framework.  While no song or artist will meet each of these criteria, the following are guidelines we use in selecting music.  Our goal is to create a memorable and creative experience for our listeners.

  • WTMD plays a blend of popular and recurrent music.

  • WTMD strives to play music that is values based and creates a sense of community for our listeners.
  • WTMD is non-commercial and independent.  We choose our own music based on our listeners needs and information.
  • Specifically, WTMD plays a mix of acoustic based rock, blues, folk, and  Americana created by artists with a commitment to their craft.
  • WTMD regularly features local artists and invites them to our studios to play and talk about their music.
  • WTMD focuses on new and recurrent music by artists that have forged a life long relationship with our listeners from college age to middle age.
  • Our sound is not dense, or produced more through machines than through musical talent.
  • WTMD selects music based on the sound of the music regardless of the artist’s normal genre.  We don’t let music labels dictate our playlist.
